Branding Guidelines

Overview

Rutgers Brand Guidelines were created to promote consistency in the way we communicate about the university. The breadth and impact of all we do is even more impressive when we look and sound like a single institution and are recognized by our audiences as one.

As stewards and storytellers of our school, we share a responsibility to present our brand correctly in all forms of communication, whether in print, online, in presentations, or on apparel. This includes, but is not limited to, letterhead, magazines, newsletters, web pages and all promotional items, including T-shirts.

To be the best ambassadors of our image, reputation, and story in the community-at-large, we want to achieve consistency in our branding. To ensure compliance, it is mandatory that Communications and Marketing review any print, apparel or other item using the university or school name or logo before it goes to print. Additionally, if you require design assistance with your materials, please reach out to Alexis Fulks (alexis.fulks@rutgers.edu) to be assigned a project specialist.

Please allow 4 days for the review process within SHP. Email Lisa Adams (kla90@shp.rutgers.edu) the proof, materials, vendor name, and/or pdf version of the items.

There are items that require approval from Rutgers Strategic Communications office, including marketing campaign materials (brochures, pamphlets, bus ads, TV/radio spots, google ads). Approval for these items takes 5 business days. Please email/call Bev McCarron (bev.mccarron@rutgers.edu or 973-972-9269) before starting a campaign.

Things to know about branding at Rutgers:

  • The Rutgers logo is the face and signature of the university The more consistent a logo looks and is used, the more likely it will be remembered and make an impact. When using the logo, branding guidelines must be followed. Please see the Rutgers Visual Identity Manual.
  • Sharing colors, fonts, and imagery helps establish a unified visual identity. Brand guidelines help achieve consistency. Rutgers has preferred fonts as well as specific Pantone colors which you should become familiar with and use in all materials.
  • The purchase of promotional items is a valuable way to increase visibility to our school’s brand and to promote school pride. Branding guidelines must be followed on these items. Before going to print, all promotional items must be approved by SHP’s Office of Marketing, Communications, & Strategic Initiatives, as well as, Rutgers Office of Trademark Licensing at trademark@uc.rutgers.edu.
  • To ensure quality and compliance with Rutgers Brand Guidelines, we highly recommend assistance from the Communications team at the beginning of the production process.
