"What do I want to do when I graduate?" is a question most high school students face at one time or the other. And for some, the Rutgers, School of Health Professions'(SHP) Health Science Careers program helps answer that question.
The Health Science Careers program enables juniors and seniors to earn up to 34 college credits in preparation for a career in a health field. It is a program that occurs between high schools and Rutgers, SHP and it is part of the regular high school day at each individual high school.
The program held its twenty-third and largest annual Student Recognition Ceremony on June 9, 2016 at The Rutgers University College Avenune Campus Student center. Suzanne D'Anna, MS., Health Science Careers Program Director and Barbara Gladson, Ph.D. welcomed 1636 students from 59 high schools throughout New Jersey. All 1636 students were awarded a Certificate for Participation in the Health Science Careers program. Two students from each high school who achieved academic excellence were also awarded Certificates for Academic Excellence. Barbara Gladson, Ph.D. spoke addressing a wide range of topics, including the demand for professionals in more than 200 health care fields and spoke the many opportunities available for students in the Health field and the need for well qualified individuals needed for the workforce in the future.
ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS:
Kayla Thomas from Midland Park High School, in Midland Park, NJ and Akanksha Chouhan from Oldbridge High School in Old Bridge, NJ were awarded the Pat Olson Memorial Scholarship. The winners were chosen based on an essay written about the students interest in a health profession. Those students received a monetary scholarship and recognition at the Rutgers SHP Annual Recognition ceremony held on June 9, 2016 at The Rutgers University College Avenune Campus Student center.
