Introduction

"What do I want to do when I graduate?" is a question most high school students face at one time or the other. And for some, the Rutgers, School of Health Professions'(SHP) Health Science Careers program helps answer that question.

The Health Science Careers program enables juniors and seniors to earn up to 34 college credits in preparation for a career in a health field. It is a program that occurs between high schools and Rutgers, SHP, and it is part of the regular high school day at each individual high school.

The program held its twenty-fourth annual Student Recognition Ceremony on June 8, 2017 at The Rutgers University College Avenue Campus Student Center.  Suzanne D'Anna, MS., Health Science Careers Program Director along with Sherry Geardino and Alicia Dahl welcomed 1623 students from 64 high schools throughout New Jersey. All 1623 students were awarded a Certificate for Participation in the Health Science Careers program. Two students from each high school who achieved academic excellence were also awarded Certificates for Academic Excellence.

Ms. Christine Mckiernan, a founding member of the program and teacher from Sussex County Technical School, spoke to the students in attendance of the positive impact they will have on society as they work towards the goal of becoming a health professinal.
