Aubrey Daniels, Ph.D.

A central focus of Dr. Daniels’s scholarship is resilience. Her research recognizes that many individuals who experience trauma also demonstrate significant strengths and adaptive capacities. She studies the factors that support resilience, including family environment, family cohesion, supportive relationships, and post-traumatic growth, and aims to develop preventive methods and programs for children and families experiencing complex trauma.

Dr. Daniels also examines cultural humility, racial trauma, anti-racist counseling, advocacy, social justice, and Black disability justice. Her published work addresses equity-focused school-family-community partnerships, trauma-informed child advocacy, suicide assessment and counselor training, racial trauma among Black and BIPOC communities, counselor education, and mental health among college students.

As a clinician, Dr. Daniels is a Licensed Professional Counselor in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. Her clinical practice focuses on childhood and complex trauma, crisis intervention, adult mental health, and work with children, adolescents, families, college students, and adults experiencing significant mental health concerns.

Her teaching, supervision, and research are grounded in trauma-informed care and family systems theories. Across these areas, Dr. Daniels seeks to prepare culturally responsive counselors, strengthen advocacy-oriented practice, and promote healing and well-being among individuals, families, and communities.
