About
Keara McNair has practiced occupational therapy for 13 years, primarily working in the physical rehabilitation field. She received both a BS and MS from the University at Buffalo (SUNY) in 2011.
She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Health Science with a concentration in health professions leadership. McNair obtained Board Certification in Physical Rehabilitation through AOTA in 2017 and the advanced certification of Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) through RESNA in 2019.
McNair is an active member of AOTA and has served on various committees to support the development and implementation of the Board Certification in Physical Rehabilitation (BCPR) exam. She developed the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation OT Fellowship in Physical Rehabilitation and serves as a mentor within that program. She was also instrumental in the development of Select Medical’s inpatient cancer rehabilitation program. McNair is an active member and lead of the American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) Education Committee (Non-Traumatic SCI Subcommittee) and the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) SCI-ISIG (Non-Traumatic SCI Task Force).

Professional Achievements
Research
McNair’s efforts centralize around effective communication and the therapeutic relationship as instrumental to OT practice across settings.
Her previous research focused on comfort and confidence in working with individuals with cancer, understanding factors relating to acute care discharge and early death in individuals with cancer in the inpatient setting, and evidence-based practice for individuals with acute and chronic stroke.
Her current research and PhD scope focuses on development and implementation of community-based programs for young adults with SCI to support the transition to adulthood.
