On Monday, June 3, Dean Jeffrey DiGiovanni led a ribbon-cutting ceremony of the newly renovated Clinical Laboratory at Rutgers School of Health Professions in Newark, NJ. The event was attended by a diverse group of faculty, alumni, industry partners, and supporters.   

Dean DiGiovanni warmly welcomed the guests, highlighting the collaborative spirit that made this achievement possible. “Your presence here today demonstrates the partnership we have in our collective mission,” he remarked. 

The new laboratory is set to significantly enhance the educational experience for students in the Medical Laboratory Science Programs and the Master of Science in Diagnostic Cytopathology Program. Designed to foster innovation and inclusivity, the lab will accommodate up to 50 students, a notable increase from the previous capacity of 35.  

• Inclusivity and Accessibility: The laboratory includes a wheelchair-accessible area, ensuring all students can comfortably participate in lab activities, reflecting Rutgers’ commitment to inclusivity.   
• Advanced Teaching Tools: Equipped with new audio and visual monitors connected to a document camera, the lab will offer enhanced procedural demonstrations, creating an interactive and engaging learning environment.   
• Personalized Learning: At the center of the lab is a new teaching scope designed for small-group instruction, providing students with personalized, hands-on learning opportunities.   
• Cutting-Edge Equipment: The lab boasts a new fume hood for Diagnostic Cytopathology sample staining, a dedicated Cytopathology prep room for tissue grossing and sample preparation, and a designated slide room with a Precipoint slide image scanner. This advanced equipment will help create a comprehensive slide library accessible to all students, significantly enriching their academic experience. 

In his closing remarks, Dean DiGiovanni expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the successful renovation. “Your support is invaluable to us,” he said. 

The ceremony concluded with the official ribbon-cutting, followed by an invitation for attendees to explore the new facilities and enjoy refreshments. The event marked a significant milestone for the Rutgers School of Health Professions, promising to elevate the training and education of future health care professionals.
