SHP-Newark – Normal Operations Resume Friday 8/12/22

Dear SHP Newark community members,
SHP Newark will return to normal operations on Friday, August 12.
As of this morning, the City of Newark states the following:
The water leaks have been stopped and full water pressure should be at 100 percent by Wednesday evening.  The boil water advisory issued Tuesday remains in place until further notice. Residents are advised to continue boiling their water before using it or use bottled water until notified that water quality is satisfactory.

Rutgers Facilities has confirmed that our water pressure is back to normal.  Prior to re-starting your work, check to make sure your eyewashes are operating (if the eyewash is at a sink, run into sink, if not get a bucket for the drain point and check the flow). Allow the water to run for a few moments to clear any sediment they may have been disturbed by the shutdown.  Call the University Facilities Service Call Center at 848) 445-1234 if you have any issues.

In addition, you may see that your water is discolored or has an odor.  This is perfectly normal when work is done of the potable water supply and is typically caused by the iron in the pipes and is not a health risk.  Again, allow the water to run for a few moments to clear any sediment that may have been disturbed by the shutdown.
