Help Newark Families Access Essential Speech Therapy

At the Rutgers Speech-Language Pathology Clinic, free speech therapy services help children and adults receive essential care for autism, language delays, brain injuries, swallowing disorders, and more. But for many Newark families, getting to the clinic can be one of the biggest barriers to treatment.

The RU-Speech Therapy Transportation Assistance Program helps remove that barrier by supporting transportation to weekly therapy sessions. When families cannot get to the clinic reliably, even free care can remain out of reach. This fund helps make consistent treatment possible and keeps clients connected to the services they need.

Students Maya and Grace helped bring attention to this need through a recent student-led T-shirt fundraiser that raised $700 for the clinic’s Transportation Fund. In sharing why the fund mattered to them, they emphasized that many clients rely on this support to attend weekly sessions. Their message was simple: transportation can be the first barrier to care, and removing that barrier helps make treatment possible.

That is exactly why this fund matters. It supports more accessible, patient-centered care for the individuals and families served by Rutgers School of Health Professions.

On Rutgers Giving Day, support the RU-Speech Therapy Transportation Assistance Program and help ensure Newark families can access free, essential speech therapy services. Every ride matters. Every session counts.
