Course Description
This course equips speech-language pathologists with knowledge and skills regarding the social determinants of health, principles of diversity, and strategies for addressing bias. Learners will explore trauma-informed supervision practices to meet diverse trainee needs. Through activities and case studies, participants gain strategies for advancing equity and inclusion in supervision.

After completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify the five main social determinants of health
- Define culturally responsive practice
- Define trauma-informed care and list three trauma-informed supervision strategies
- List three ways SLP materials and activities can be more culturally responsive
- Describe the elements of an effective session plan for a culturally and linguistically diverse student

Satisfactory Completion Requirements:
To be awarded a certificate of completion, participants must:
- Watch all videos associated with each of four modules
- Read two articles listed as required within Module Three
- Pass a 5-question multiple-choice quiz with 80% accuracy for each of the four modules; there are unlimited re-takes of each quiz
- Complete and submit a final survey/course evaluation and assessment.
There is no partial credit. A link to the online assessments and course evaluation will be provided within the Canvas platform.

Presenter Biography
Kristen Victorino, Ph.D., CCC-SLP is an associate professor in the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology Program in the School of Health Professions at Rutgers University. Dr. Victorino specializes in child language development and disorders and has a particular interest in evidence-based and equitable service practices in schools.

Presenter Biography
Stephanie Hubbell, M.S., CCC-SLP, is the founding Director of Clinical Education within Rutgers University’s M.S. Speech-Language Pathology program. While her clinical areas of specialty include autism, AAC, and gender-affirming voice and communication, Stephanie prides herself in building innovative and culturally-responsive speech-language service provision programs within the Newark, NJ community, as well as developing educational programming that is problem-based, learner-centered, and trauma-informed.

In this course, best practices for multilingual speech and language evaluations in schools will be presented. Procedures for gathering information about a student’s language exposure and use will be emphasized. Standardized and non-standardized methods of assessment will be reviewed along with reporting standards for evaluation. A framework for determining whether a multilingual learner presents with a language difference, disorder, or both will be discussed.
