National Board Certification
There are two nationally recognized certifications for cardiac and vascular sonographer: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS); Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) offered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS); Registered Vascular Sonography (RVS) offered by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
Graduates of the program meet the educational requirements outlined under Prerequisite 2 of the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers ARMDS (http://www.ardms.org/) for the RDCS credential examination. The ARDMS conducts a “pre-application review,” for individuals who wish to determine the impact of a previous criminal matter on their eligibility to apply for ARDMS certification. This review process is recommended for individuals who have not yet applied or are contemplating enrollment in a sonography program that might have a previous criminal matter.
Graduates of the program meet the educational requirements outlined under Prerequisite RCS4 of Cardiovascular Credentialing International (www.cci-online.org) for the RCS credential examination. Applicants with questions regarding personal criminal matters may request a pre-application review to determine whether they qualify for the CCI credentialing process.
Applicants that anticipate the need for testing accommodations should contact the appropriate board certification organization to find out what documents will be required in order to request such an accommodation. All students in the program are required to set for the national registry certification examinations.
Due to the incorporation of the vascular sonography core curriculum into the cardiac sonography program, graduates must first attempt and pass the cardiac registry examination (RDCS or RCS) before attempting the vascular registry examination. Passing the cardiac sonography registry credential and the program’s verification of the graduate’s vascular clinical training time is required for eligibility to take the Registered Vascular Technologist or Registered Vascular Sonographer examination. This provision will be required until the completion of accreditation of the vascular sonography curriculum component of the program.
